Social bookmarking on Delicious

This is a useful way to save bookmarks and move them around on different computers. I can see potential for information sharing through social bookmarking and tagging, although again I am hesitant when there isn't a control.
My Delicious

Video online

I have embedded a video of Tea Making Tips from 1941 made by the British Film Industry and uploaded to YouTube in 2008.

After my difficulties with flickr, this seemed easy. I assume it's okay to use because it's from 1941.

It's easy to spend a lot of time searching and looking at videos. Quite fun. I would like to see our library uploading video content to our website - footage of talks, learning videos, but I would not be so keen to see them linked to YouTube or Google Video because it's so easy to get side-tracked with other videos!

Fun with Flickr?

So, first I couldn't embed a photo because I wasn't using the original source of the photo, then I found the correct URL and embedded a pic, but now I seem to have deleted the post!
Fun with Flickr Take 2.
On the plus side. Doing this more than once has allowed me to learn more about Flickr like how to find pics with  Creative Commons in the advanced search.

Working with Wikis

Dare I say it... having used Wikipedia while on the Reference Desk helping a customer, I could hardly be a detractor, but I must admit to prefering a more 'official' encyclopedia for citations and more solid sources for research.
What I found interesting about Wikis is the idea of using one more personally - it really could work to set up a trip with friends on a wiki, or professionally - to set up a wiki for collaborative work within my own organisation.
I would like to see our library apply a wiki for the local studies collection - how cool it would be if our local residents could submit their own biographies, photographs, ephemera and make up a resource for the future. Of course, the usual suspects of lack of time/interest and questions of authenticity would have to be overcome.

RSS Feeds - Exponential increase

  • What do you like about RSS and newsreaders? Compacting information, easy to use, choice
  • What sites did you select for your RSS reader? Powerhouse Museum Picture of the day, Apple, ABC News, ABS and Art Deco Posters
  • How do you think you might be able to use this technology in your work? Learning about new e-resources, Up-to-date info on databases, etc
  • How can libraries use RSS or take advantage of this new technology? Readers Advisory - feeds from online bookstores on what is new, what is selling? Own RSS sending out to clients - what's new, new purchases, what's hot?
  • Did you find any good examples of other library blogs? Save this for next week

Learning starts

Discovering blogs: a useful way to share information that is realated to date.
Blogs that integrate with websites are inspiring. I hope to see blogs being used by libraries to share news, events, local history information and perhaps even readers advisory and reference assistance. The most exciting aspect for me is the interactivity of blogs, potentially allowing customers to provide feedback and to contribute to library websites.
